WRC Working Groups
Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) is focused on many initiatives that all lead to the same, ultimate goal of making the City of Wilmington an even better place to live, play and prosper. We cultivate and maintain partnerships that make our success and the success of the city a reality.
Below you will find information about our three working groups which continually focus on challenges facing the City of Wilmington, solutions for overcoming them and ways to implement changes.
Working Groups
WRC identified three issues that need specific attention and focus and then created working groups comprised of key players from the public and private sector representatives to accomplish the goals of each group.
Economic Development Working Group
The Economic Development Working Group includes business owners, city officials and public and private representatives and meets the third Wednesday of the month at noon in the WRC office.
The group's focus is on retaining and recruiting businesses to downtown Wilmington. With the research and assistance of the group and its partners,
WRC recently launched the Downtown Business Information Zone (DBIZ) as a referral service for individuals looking to open or expand a small business in the City of Wilmington.
Current projects include:
- Revamping and reinstituting a Merchant Parking Validation Program
- Working with small businesses on marketing
Marketing Working Group
The Marketing Working Group is comprised of talented, creative marketing professionals from the private and public sector. The committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in the WRC office.
The group focuses on developing strategies for marketing the City of Wilmington, improving existing processes and linking the marketing efforts of all major city organizations. The new image campaign, “Wilmington...In the middle of it all,” is the current focus of the group.
Current subcommittees are focusing on:
- Residential Marketing
- Arts Marketing
- "In" Schools Program
- Gateways to the city
Transportation Working Group
The Transportation Working Group brings public and private experts to the table to identify transportation challenges in the City of Wilmington. The group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. in the WRC office.
The committee is working on design standards and programs for downtown that will improve the traveling experience for both pedestrians and vehicles. The group establishes priorities and then works together to overcome the obstacles.
Current projects include:
- Transportation Enhancement grant for intersection improvements
- Strategies around parking in downtown
