Downtown Fall Fest

Downtown Fall Fest

Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) will bring the 2011 Downtown Fall Fest, presented by AstraZeneca, to Market Street in downtown Wilmington on Saturday, Nov. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature five blocks of fun including Super Hoops, bungee challenge, giant slide, moon bounces, hayrides, obstacle courses and much more. In addition, the festival will have live music and performances from local entertainers.

The event will feature the AZ Challenge once again this year. Schools and nonprofit organizations can participate to win $500. There is no need to pre-register for the challenge. Simply, have the youth show up the day of the event, get a challenge punch card at an information tent, designate the school or nonprofit on the card, complete the activities and turn in the completed card. The school or nonprofit with the most participants will win the $500.

In addition to the many activities and AZ Challenge, the 2011 Downtown Fall Fest will also include a cycling Time Trial around Rodney Square. City of Wilmington youth and young people involved with the Cadence Cycling Foundation will ride the course with a cycling mentor from AstraZeneca and be timed.

Event partners, The Grand Opera House and Delaware Historical Society (DHS), will also have activities near their facilities. The Grand will host a DJ who will not only play fun songs, but will lead dancing on the street. The DHS will have old-fashioned games from throughout the decades in Willingtown Square and Colonial Dancers in Old Town Hall on the 500 Block of Market Street.

The event is also sponsored in part by the City of Wilmington, DuPont, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delmarva Power, and Downtown Visions.
