New Year, New Resolutions!

A New Year is here and with the coming of 2012 are many New Year’s Resolutions. Perhaps your focus this year is on personal health or financial health; or perhaps you have already broken the two-week old promise. Perhaps you are just like me and you could not find something worthwhile enough to prompt a resolution. Well there is no need to fret!

No matter what category your resolutions (or lack thereof) fall into, Wilmington has all that you need to make the most of 2012. From fitness to fabulous, you can easily find what you need to conquer your resolutions right in Wilmington’s Downtown.

Check out the Bike Boutique on Orange Street – they offer spin classes during lunch hours and evenings. You’ll get a great workout that doesn’t require going outdoors during the cold winter! Need to look fabulous this season or any season? Visit any number of the fashionable boutiques along Market Street and side streets. NOSO Boutique on West 9th Street is an adorable ladies boutique that has just expanded to a men’s line!

Then there is the newly opened Space Boy on the 600 block of Market Street. Not only do they sell their own locally designed apparel and art but they offer other creative services such as screen printing, embroidery, custom graphic design, website design and photography – all well worth checking out! Is the hole in your pocket from holiday shopping leaving you biting your nails? No worries, many non-profits in the New Castle County area offer services to help you manage your finances. For example, the Delaware Financial Literacy Institute offers Money School classes and consulting services.

Still not resolved to do something in 2012 yet? Okay, okay, you already look the part with a membership at Planet Fitness, new stylish hair-do from Babe Styling Studio or HOMMES on the 200 block of Market or Matildas Off Market on Shipley St., runway worthy clothes from Dimensions & Co., and an economy on the rise has money in your pocket.

Sounds like you need to add a little social life then! Attend one of the Art Loops on First Friday (Feb. 3 is the first one of the New Year), see a film at Theatre N, check out a play or concert at the many performance venues in the city or do dinner and a show. Take time to taste the delicious variety Wilmington has to offer between sushi at Mikimoto’s on Washington Street to tapas at Orilla’s on Market or the beer list offered at Chelsea’s Tavern you can’t go wrong! The newest addition to Market St., Ernest & Scott’s Taproom is slated to open in just a few days and the cask-conditioned beer list is insane!

New Year’s is not about resolutions that you make and break. It is about challenging yourself to try something new. And now you have no excuse! Make 2012 work for you in Wilmington!
