Join the Fun!
As you may have read in this month's In Wilmington Magazine cover story, the Wilmington Grand Prix is back! The event will take place on Friday, May 18 to Sunday, May 20. The weekend of pro and amateur cycling, family fun and more has something for everyone.
Not a cyclist and you just want to hang out and watch? No problem! On Friday, May 18, the Monkey Hill Time Trial will also have food and drinks for spectators looking to cheer on their favorites. The hot spot will be at the top of the hill—with perfect viewing of the last leg up the cobblestone hill. On Saturday, you can watch pro and amateur men and women race along Market St., join the Parade to Fight Hunger at noon, and participate in all of the free, family fun in the street festival. On Sunday, join us in the Sculpture Garden of the Delaware Art Museum to send the riders of the Gran Fondo and the Governor’s Ride and be there for the after-party.
Are you into cycling, but not quite at the pro level yet? No worries! If you are a competitive cyclist, why not join the Monkey Hill Time Trial and compare your time to national and international pros! If you are into distance as opposed to speed, the Grand Fondo could be a great opportunity. The 62-mile trek will take you through 13 cultural attractions that you can’t typically ride a bike on the grounds. If you are looking for something a bit shorter and more leisurely, check out the 2nd Annual Governor’s Ride that will also explore some of the cultural attractions, but will be 15 miles.
The proceeds from the registration fees for both the Gran Fondo and the Governor’s Ride will benefit the Food Bank of Delaware.
